Pot Size/Grade

Sedum spectabile 'Stardust' is a compact, easy-care perennial that produces large clusters of crisp white flowers above attractive succulent foliage from late summer into autumn. As many other perennials begin to fade, Stardust comes into its own, providing valuable late-season colour while attracting bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.

Its fleshy blue-green leaves create interest throughout spring and summer, while the flower heads remain attractive well into winter, adding structure and texture to the garden. Tough, drought tolerant and incredibly low maintenance, Sedum Stardust is an excellent choice for modern gardens, cottage borders, containers and water-wise landscapes.

How to maintain your Sedum Spectabile Stardust once established?

Water regularly until plants establish.

Established Plants

Once established, Sedum Stardust is highly drought tolerant and generally only requires watering during prolonged dry periods.

Overwatering is one of the few things that can negatively affect this plant.

Sedums are light feeders and generally perform well in average garden soils.

For best results:

Apply compost lightly in spring.
Use a balanced slow-release fertiliser if required.
Avoid excessive fertiliser, which can lead to floppy growth.
Pruning
After Flowering

You have two options:

Leave the spent flower heads intact for winter interest.
Remove flower stems after flowering if a tidier appearance is preferred.

Before new growth emerges:

Cut old stems back to ground level.
Remove any dead or damaged material.
Fresh shoots will emerge from the crown in spring.
Dividing Plants

Mature clumps benefit from division every 3–5 years.

Dividing helps:

Maintain vigour
Improve flowering
Increase plant numbers

The best time to divide is in spring.

Sedum Stardust is highly frost hardy and performs well throughout New Zealand.

Winter care is minimal:

Ensure good drainage.
Leave flower heads standing for winter interest if desired.
Cut back old growth before spring growth begins.
Growing in Containers

Sedum Stardust grows exceptionally well in pots and containers.

For best results:

Use a free-draining potting mix.
Position in full sun.
Water sparingly once established.
Feed lightly during spring.
