Pratia Angulata
Pratia Angulata
Lobelia Angulata, NZ Pratia
Pratia angulata is a beautiful low-growing New Zealand native ground cover that quickly forms a dense carpet of fresh green foliage, making it an excellent choice for filling spaces between pavers, softening garden edges and suppressing weeds. Naturally occurring throughout New Zealand, this hardy perennial is perfectly suited to a wide range of garden styles, from native landscapes to modern courtyards.
Throughout late spring and summer, Pratia angulata produces masses of delicate star-shaped white flowers that sit just above the foliage. These are followed by attractive small purple-blue berries, adding further seasonal interest and making this native ground cover even more appealing.
Its creeping habit allows it to spread naturally, creating a lush living carpet that requires very little maintenance once established. Unlike many vigorous ground covers, Pratia remains relatively low-growing while tolerating light foot traffic, making it ideal between stepping stones and along pathways.
Whether you’re looking to replace mulch, soften hard landscaping or establish a low-maintenance native planting, Pratia angulata is one of New Zealand’s finest evergreen ground covers.

Feeding
Apply compost or a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to encourage vigorous growth and flowering.
Spacing
Plant approximately 30–40cm apart for quick ground cover.

Pratia angulata requires very little maintenance. Trim lightly if it spreads beyond its desired area or becomes untidy.
In dry periods, occasional watering will help maintain lush foliage. Dividing established patches every few years is an easy way to propagate new plants and rejuvenate older clumps.
