Pot Size/Grade

Pitto Screenmaster is a smart, upright evergreen Pittosporum grown for privacy, shelter and year-round structure. It has attractive blue-green, slightly rippled foliage on dark stems, giving it a softer, more interesting look than a plain green hedge.

This is a brilliant option if you want a fast, tidy screen without planting something that feels too heavy or formal. It has a naturally upright habit, making it ideal for boundary planting, driveway edges, shelter belts, screening out neighbours, or adding height behind garden beds.

Pitto Screenmaster is based on a compact blue-toned Pittosporum form commonly grown for hedging and screening. Similar forms are known for their dense foliage, pyramidal/upright habit, small fragrant purple flowers in spring, and mature sizing around 3–5m tall by 2–3m wide, depending on site, trimming and growing conditions.

In plain English: it’s a great “please stop looking into my garden” plant — but make it attractive.

How to establish your Pittosporum Screenmaster?

Position:
Plant in full sun to part shade. Full sun will encourage denser growth and stronger foliage colour, while part shade is fine for most garden situations.

Soil:
Best in moist but free-draining soil. Pittosporums are generally adaptable, but they do not love sitting in wet, heavy ground for long periods. If your soil is sticky clay, improve drainage before planting.

Watering:
Water regularly while establishing, especially through the first summer. Once established, Pitto Screenmaster is reasonably hardy and lower maintenance, but it will perform best with occasional deep watering during long dry spells.

Feeding:
Feed in spring with a general garden fertiliser or slow-release fertiliser. Mulch around the base to help retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep mulch away from the trunk.

Spacing:
For a dense hedge or screen, plant approximately 1–1.5m apart, depending on how quickly you want coverage and how tightly you plan to trim it. Use closer spacing for a faster, fuller screen; wider spacing if you’re happy to wait.

Best uses:
Great for privacy screens, hedging, boundary planting, shelter, driveway edges, native-style gardens, modern landscapes and backdrop planting.

How to maintain your Pittosporum Screenmaster once established?

Pitto Screenmaster is easy to maintain and responds well to trimming. For a neat hedge or screen, lightly trim once or twice a year to encourage bushy growth. Regular light trimming is better than letting it get leggy and then giving it a panic haircut.

Trim in spring and/or late summer to autumn, avoiding hard pruning during extreme heat, drought or heavy frost periods. If you want a looser, more natural screen, you can simply prune to shape and remove any awkward or damaged branches.

To keep the plant dense from the base, start trimming lightly while the plants are young rather than waiting until they reach full height. That little bit of early discipline saves you from ending up with a hedge that looks like it’s wearing ankle socks.
