Pittosporum Pom-Pom
Pittosporum Pom-Pom
Pittosporum Pom-Pom is a compact, evergreen shrub with naturally rounded, bright green foliage that brings instant structure to the garden. It has that neat clipped-ball look without needing constant fussing, making it a brilliant choice for low hedging, borders, entranceways, pots, courtyard planting, and formal garden edges.
This is one of those plants that looks like you’ve made an effort with the ongoing maintenance. It forms a tidy mound of fresh green foliage and works beautifully as a repeat planting along paths, in pairs beside a doorway, or dotted through garden beds for year-round shape.
Hardy, compact, and easy to manage, Pittosporum Pom-Pom is ideal for gardeners wanting a smart, structured look without becoming a full-time topiary servant. Similar compact Pittosporum forms are typically used for low hedging, containers and natural rounded shapes, with mature sizing often around 60cm to 1m, depending on conditions and pruning.
Where to use it:
Great for low hedging, clipped balls, modern borders, pots, formal entrances, driveway edges, courtyard gardens and anywhere that needs a bit of evergreen “tidy up your life” energy.

How to establish your Pittosporum Pom-Pom?
How to establish your Pittosporum Pom-Pom?
Position:
Plant in full sun to part shade. Full sun will usually give the tightest, neatest growth, while part shade is fine as long as the site is not too dark or damp.
Soil:
Best in free-draining soil. Pittosporums do not love sitting in wet feet, so avoid heavy, soggy areas unless you improve drainage first.
Watering:
Water well while establishing, especially through the first summer. Once settled, Pittosporum Pom-Pom is fairly hardy and lower maintenance, but container-grown plants will still need regular watering in hot, dry weather.
Feeding:
Feed in spring with a general garden fertiliser or slow-release fertiliser to encourage fresh, healthy growth. A mulch around the base will help hold moisture and reduce weeds, but keep mulch away from the stem.
How to maintain your Pittosporum Pom-Pom once established?
How to maintain your Pittosporum Pom-Pom once established?
Pittosporum Pom-Pom naturally grows into a rounded shape, so it does not need heavy pruning to look good. A light trim is usually enough to keep it tidy.
For the best shape, give it a light clip in spring and again in summer or autumn if needed. Use sharp secateurs or hedge shears to avoid rough, browned leaf edges. Regular light trims are better than letting it get wild and then attacking it like you’ve had a bad day. General Pittosporum hedge care often recommends trimming through spring, summer and autumn to keep plants dense and structured.
Remove any dead, damaged or frost-affected growth in spring. If the plant is being grown in a pot, check watering more often and refresh the potting mix or feed seasonally to keep it looking lush.
