Phormium Sweet Mist ®
Flax Sweet Mist Flax, NZ Flax Plant
Phormium ‘Sweet Mist®’ is an elegant evergreen New Zealand flax admired for its soft variegated foliage and refined compact form. Featuring slender arching leaves in gentle tones of bronze, red and soft green, this beautifully balanced variety brings light, texture and year-round interest into the garden.
Unlike darker or bolder flax varieties, ‘Sweet Mist®’ offers a softer more contemporary appearance that works effortlessly in modern landscapes, coastal gardens and mixed planting schemes. Its fine foliage catches changing light throughout the day, creating movement and contrast while maintaining strong architectural structure.
Compact and versatile, this NZ flax is ideal for borders, mass planting, containers and smaller garden spaces where colour and texture are needed without overwhelming neighbouring plants. Tough and easy care once established, Phormium ‘Sweet Mist®’ handles wind, coastal conditions and periods of dryness exceptionally well.
Mature plants may produce tall summer flower spikes that attract tūī and other nectar-feeding birds, adding further seasonal interest to this beautiful New Zealand native selection.
