Planting & Care Tips
Planting & Care Tips
How to care for your Lavandula Hidcote:Water regularly while plants establish.
Once established, Lavandula Hidcote is highly drought tolerant.
Water only during prolonged dry periods and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Avoid overwatering.
Lavenders perform best in relatively lean soils.
For healthy growth:
Apply a light layer of compost in spring.
Use a low-nitrogen slow-release fertiliser if required.
Avoid excessive feeding, which encourages soft leafy growth instead of flowers.
Annual pruning is essential to keep Hidcote compact and flowering well.
After Flowering
Remove spent flower stems.
Trim back approximately one-third of the current season's growth.
Maintain a rounded shape.
Important
Avoid cutting into old woody stems where there is little or no green growth, as lavender often struggles to regenerate from old wood.
Lavandula Hidcote is highly frost hardy and performs exceptionally well throughout New Zealand.
Winter care is simple:
Ensure excellent drainage.
Avoid waterlogged soil.
Remove any winter-damaged growth in spring.
Growing in Containers
Hidcote is an excellent lavender for pots.
For best results:
Use a premium free-draining potting mix.
