Lagerstroemia ‘Lavender’, commonly known as Crepe Myrtle, is a stunning deciduous flowering tree admired for its masses of soft lavender-purple blooms and exceptional summer colour. Flowering when many other garden plants have finished, this elegant variety produces large clusters of crinkled flowers that create a spectacular display from mid-summer into autumn.

Its attractive rounded habit is complemented by glossy green foliage through spring and summer, followed by beautiful autumn tones before leaf fall. The smooth decorative bark adds further seasonal interest through winter, making this a tree that performs beautifully all year round.

Lagerstroemia ‘Lavender’ is ideal as a feature tree, avenue planting or statement specimen in smaller gardens. Heat tolerant, relatively drought resistant and easy to maintain once established, it performs exceptionally well in sunny New Zealand gardens and rewards with reliable flowering and long-lasting colour.

How to establish your Lagerstroemia Lavender?

Position

Plant in full sun for the strongest flowering and best foliage colour. Crepe myrtles thrive in warm positions with good airflow.

Soil

Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid permanently wet soils.

Watering

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Lagerstroemia is reasonably drought tolerant but flowers best with occasional deep watering during dry periods.

Feeding

Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage vigorous growth and prolific flowering.

Spacing

Allow approximately 2–3m from neighbouring plants or structures to allow natural shape development.

How to maintain your Lagerstroemia Lavender once established?

Very low maintenance once established. Remove any dead, crossing or damaged branches during winter dormancy to maintain shape and airflow.

Light pruning may be carried out in late winter to encourage vigorous new flowering growth, but avoid heavy pruning which can reduce the natural form of the tree.

Mulch annually to retain soil moisture and support healthy root growth.
