Echeveria Afterglow
Echeveria Afterglow
Afterglow Echeveria
Echeveria ‘Afterglow’ is a stunning large-growing succulent prized for its oversized powdery lavender-pink leaves and glowing coral margins. Forming a dramatic symmetrical rosette, this architectural succulent can reach up to 50cm wide, making it a standout feature in pots, rock gardens, modern landscapes and dry gardens.
During warmer months, tall flower spikes emerge carrying vibrant orange-red blooms that attract bees and other pollinators. Its soft pastel colouring intensifies in full sun, especially during cooler weather, creating a striking year-round display.
Originally bred in California by renowned succulent hybridiser Don Worth, ‘Afterglow’ is considered one of the most iconic ornamental echeverias due to its impressive size, colour and resilience. Low maintenance and drought tolerant once established, it thrives in sunny positions with excellent drainage and is perfect for contemporary New Zealand gardens.

How to maintain your Echeveria Afterglow once established?
Remove spent flower stems and any damaged lower leaves as needed to keep the plant tidy. Protect from prolonged frost and excessive winter wet, particularly in colder regions. Container-grown plants can be moved under shelter during severe winter conditions.
Avoid overwatering, especially in winter, as excess moisture may cause root rot. Repot every few years if growing in containers to refresh soil and maintain plant vigour.
