Plants perform best when soil retains some moisture.

Ajuga is not a heavy feeder.

For healthy growth:

Apply compost annually in spring.
Use a balanced slow-release fertiliser if desired.
Avoid excessive fertiliser applications.

Very little maintenance is required.

Remove spent flower spikes if desired.
Tidy any damaged foliage.
Trim wandering runners if plants spread beyond their intended area.

Older foliage can be refreshed with a light trim in late winter or early spring.

Ajuga spreads via runners and can gradually cover large areas.

To control growth:

Trim runners as needed.
Lift and divide sections if required.
Replant divisions elsewhere in the garden.

This spreading habit is one of its greatest strengths as a groundcover plant.
