Pot Size/Grade

Liatris 'Kobold', commonly known as Blazing Star, is a compact perennial that produces striking upright spikes of vibrant purple flowers throughout summer. Unlike most flowering plants, Liatris blooms from the top of the flower spike downwards, creating a unique and eye-catching display that adds height, colour and texture to the garden.

A favourite of bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, Liatris Kobold is perfect for cottage gardens, perennial borders, prairie-style plantings and pollinator gardens. Planting & Care Tips

How to care for your Liatris Kobold:Water regularly during establishment.

Once established, Liatris Kobold is highly drought tolerant and generally only requires watering during extended dry periods.

Deep, occasional watering is preferable to frequent shallow watering.

Liatris is not a heavy feeder.

For best results:

Apply compost in spring.
Use a balanced slow-release fertiliser if required.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which may encourage foliage growth at the expense of flowers.

After flowering:

Remove spent flower spikes to tidy the plant.
Deadheading may encourage a small secondary flush of flowers.
Leave some seed heads if you wish to attract birds or add winter interest.
Pruning
Autumn
Allow foliage to remain until it naturally dies back.
The leaves continue feeding the underground corms for next season's growth.
Winter
Cut stems back to ground level once foliage has completely died down.
New shoots will emerge in spring.

Liatris benefits from division every 3–4 years.

Dividing helps:

Maintain vigour
Improve flowering
Increase plant numbers

The best time to divide is in spring before active growth begins.

Liatris Kobold is extremely frost hardy and performs well throughout New Zealand.

Winter care is minimal:

Ensure good drainage.
Remove old stems after dieback.
Mulch lightly if desired in colder regions.
Growing in Containers

Its compact habit makes Liatris Kobold an excellent container plant.

For best results:

Use a free-draining potting mix.
Position in full sun.
Water regularly during active growth.
Ensure pots do not remain waterlogged during winter.
