Pot Size/Grade

Stachys ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ is the compact, well-behaved Lamb’s Ear that people love for its soft, silvery, fuzzy leaves. It forms a neat little mound rather than running everywhere, making it ideal for front-of-border planting, edging paths, gravel gardens, and pots. It’s also a favourite in family gardens — you’ll see why the moment you brush past it.

In sunny South Island gardens, Stachys ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ is a proper workhorse: it handles dry conditions once established, looks good for most of the year, and gives you a clean contrast against darker foliage plants. In early summer it can throw up short flower spikes in pink-purple tones, but most people grow it mainly for the foliage.

How to establish your Stachys Fuzzy Wuzzy?

How to maintain your Stachys Fuzzy Wuzzy once established?

Spring tidy: Pull or snip off any winter-damaged leaves and lightly shape the clump.

Flower stems: After flowering, cut spent stems off at the base for a cleaner look (optional).

Keep it dry in winter: If your spot stays wet, improve drainage or lift and replant to a drier position — winter moisture is the usual reason Lamb’s Ear fails.

Divide (every few years): If the centre thins, lift and divide in spring, replanting the healthiest outer pieces.
